The first volume of the Catalogue raisonné of the works of Mimmo Rotella (b. 1918, Catanzaro; d. 2006, Milan) is part of a more extensive systematic cataloguing project of the artist's body of work by Germano Celant.

The publication is being developed in partnership with the Mimmo Rotella Institute—established by Inna and Aghnessa Rotella in 2012 and directed by Antonella Soldaini—and the Mimmo Rotella Foundation, headed by Rocco Gugliemo.

A scientific analysis and assessment is underway on the works executed during 1944–61—that is, from the artist's experimental research phase: first through figurative painting, then through geometric abstraction—to his invention of the décollage and retro d'affiche techniques. Unfolding in chronological order, the Cataloguehighlights the various stages of development of the artist's language, enabling a broader interpretation of the works executed in the period. Rotella started making use of wall posters in Rome in the early 1950s, which soon became his hallmark. Thus the artist developed two parallel techniques: with the recto of the affiches, he created décollages, which were initially similar to an informal style typical of the contemporary investigations of Alberto Burri and Lucio Fontana and then grew more figurative and iconic, in line with the pop trend that was taking hold internationally; then, with the verso of the posters, covered in wall matter and marked by mold, scratches, and traces of lime and plaster, his "retro d'affiches" took shape.

By adopting posters in the early 1950s, and through the practice of décollage and retro d'affiche, Rotella investigated the independent functioning of art as a means to define a process of depersonalization in the attempt to create a space "beyond," enabling the objectification of real space. In the abolishing of all hierarchies between subjects, Rotella's narrative in the period analyzed proves compelling and spectacular, encompassing icons from worlds as far apart as those of advertising and films.

From 22 October 2015 to 14 February 2016, HangarBicocca, the contemporary art space wholly supported by Pirelli, presents Hypothesis, the first survey exhibition in Italy of French artist Philippe Parreno. The show, curated by Andrea Lissoni, will be inhabited by a series of key pieces together with recent works and music according to a mise en scène devised by Parreno.

Over the last 20 years, Parreno has redefined the experience of the exhibition exploring the possibilities beyond the presentation of single artworks. He conceives his exhibitions as choreographed spaces that follow a script where a series of events unfold. Parreno also questions the concept of authorship and has worked in collaboration with many highly influential artists, architects or musicians.

Upon entering the "Navate" exhibition space at HangarBicocca, visitors are immediately confronted with the iconic Jasper Johns piece set elements for Walkaround Time, which was created as part of the set for Merce Cunningham's dance of the same name in 1968.

A central element of the show is Another Day with Another Sun (2014) (in collaboration with Liam Gillick and produced by the LUMA Foundation): a spotlight resembling a luminous planet, slowly navigating across the ceiling, crossing the monumental columns of HangarBicocca's space while the flickering street of the Marquees, made between 2006 and 2015, projects long shadows that seem to outgrow the surrounding space. The Marquees and pianos are sequenced to musical compositions by Agoria, Thomas Bartlett, Nicolas Becker, Ranjana Leyendecker, Robert AA Lowe and Mirwais. The Marquees will be elements of the soundtrack for the films screened in the exhibition: The Boy From Mars (2003); Invisible Boy (2010);Marilyn (2012); and the most recent film, The Crowd (2015); and on a LED screen: Anywhere Out of the World (2000); Alien Seasons (2002); and With a Rhythmic Instinction to be Able to Travel Beyond Existing Forces of Life (2014).

The "Cubo" space houses the projection of Le Mont Analogue (2001), an intermittent sequence of light that translates the novel of the same name by Renè Daumal into Morse code.

As Andrea Lissoni, curator of the exhibition, said: "Hypothesis can be considered an experimental model for a solo show, in which different existing works are recombined for just the duration of the exhibition, becoming a temporary installation, and then getting back their individual lives and status after the show itself has ended.Hypothesis is a hypothesis for a time-based exhibition in which beginning and end are no longer located in the space but dispersed in time, enabling a never ending iridescent experience of the artworks as well as of the venue."

Hypothesis is part of the programme of exhibitions curated by artistic director Vicente Todolí together with curator Andrea Lissoni. The 2015 calendar of HangarBicocca will continue with the exhibition by Petrit Halilaj (3 December 2015–13 March 2016).

Jeu de Paume, Paris 9 February–22 May 2016 Wiels Centre d'Art Contemporain, Brussels Autumn 2016 My work is my body, my body is my work surveys the career of renowned Portuguese artist Helena Almeida (b. 1934, Lisbon), featuring over 80 works in painting, photography, video, and drawing. Since the 1960s, Almeida has produced a singular body of work in which the importance of the body—registering, occupying, and defining space—and its performative encounter with the world has been a defining concern. Almeida's early abstract painting critically addressed the limits of pictorial space and the literal conditions of a painting, inflected by a feminist and post-revolutionary stance toward classicism and representation. This interest extended to the medium of photography in the 1970s, introducing the distinct space of the artist's studio, as well as the female body, fragmented or partially obscured, as a recurring presence. This body, as the conflicted site of both political and personal expression, encounters and manipulates the surrounding world—it acts, touches, senses and marks, leaving behind its moving traces as drawn lines, shaping itself into a variety of outlines and expressive forms. Along with the artist's "inhabited" paintings and the photographic series for which she is best known, the exhibition also features rarely-seen work from throughout her artistic career, including Almeida's drawings, in which she meticulously sketches choreography and composition. Parallel to the exhibition, one of the artist's major works in the Serralves Collection, (Untitled,1994−95), will be presented in the National Theatre of Porto (Teatro Nacional São João – TNSJ) between 17 October and 13 December. Helena Almeida: My work is my body, my body is my work is curated by João Ribas, Deputy Director and Senior Curator, and Marta Moreira de Almeida, Head of Exhibitions of the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibition is organized by the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, Porto, in association with Jeu de Paume, Paris and Wiels Centre d'Art Contemporain, Brussels. A comprehensive catalogue on the artist's working process and the place of her work within the broader context of the Portuguese and international art scene since the 1970s, accompanies the exhibition, with contributions by Bernardo Pinto de Almeida, Connie Butler, and Peggy Phelan, and an interview with the artist conducted by the curators of the exhibition. A programme of tours, talks and screenings accompanies the exhibition. About the artist Helena Almeida was born in Lisbon in 1934. She studied painting at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts and has been exhibiting her work regularly since the late 1960s. Major exhibits in institutions worldwide include Kettle's Yard (2009), Cambridge (2009), Fundación Telefónica, Madrid (2009), The Drawing Centre, New York (2004), the Sydney Biennial (2004), and Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, Santiago de Compostela (2000). Almeida represented Portugal at the Venice Biennial in 1982 and 2005. ASIA NOW – Paris Asian Art Fair is the first boutique art fair in France and Europe to bring a new perspective to contemporary Asian art, shining a light on all it has to offer to the international scene by presenting artistic practices of 45 artists.
